Body Scan
Consciousness is the idea that we hold awareness in our mind, in our thoughts, or in our intention, and that that idea, concept, theme is the way in which we experience something. It is reflected in our experience of something. Paying attention. Holding the intention for something.
The definition of consciousness is awareness of; knowledge of the existence of, alertness to, sensitivity to, realization of, cognizance of, mindfulness of, perception of, apprehension of, recognition of.
Another definition is the state or quality of sentience or awareness of internal or external existence; the ability to experience or to feel, wakefulness, awareness of.
Someone who holds gratitude as a consciousness experiences things in a grateful way, in a way that they appreciate and are grateful for all that comes their way, and the idea follows that all experiences would be received in this way. It's not a forced thing but a simple way of being, an awareness.
Perspective can create consciousness, if for example we were living in an area where fresh food was not available, all food would be appreciated as fresh. If you have ever met someone with an endless sunny disposition you might find that they find only things to be happy about and that they hold this intention, creating the happy state of being.
In the same way we can be angered by traffic on the way to work and not shake that anger; it becomes the energy by which we experience things, and have you noticed very often things throughout the day tend to continue to aggravate us? That's an example of frustration or anger in our consciousness.
Consciousness can be created by us through our experience, negative or positive, or intentionally for our own benefit through setting intention, through prayer or meditation. This intentional work creates the opportunity for something to be experienced in that way, throughout our day or experience. We can intend to be kind for the day and find that many opportunities arise, to create kindness in our day, and that we notice kindness within ourselves that day, the kind acts we do routinely come into our awareness.
This is the same way that meditation works is by bringing the energy, the awareness, into our consciousness for calm and peace and we notice a balanced experience of calm and peace afterwards.
This is neuroscience. Chemicals in the brain respond to our thoughts and our experience and prepare the body and mind for what's ahead of us. Just like anxiety creates chemicals for a stress experience, calm creates chemicals in the brain for calm experience.
Play with intention or prayer, simply by taking a quiet moment and ask that this be a part of your day, life experience and watch what unfolds!
